SCDOT requests Public Comment on the 2024-2033 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program To Include Federal Lands Transportation Improvement Projects
Columbia, S.C. (July 17, 2025) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks public comment on the action to amend the 2024-2033 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) to include five federal lands transportation improvement projects. SCDOT will receive public comment for the 21-day period from July 17, 2025 through August 7, 2025.
The proposed projects will provide for transportation infrastructure improvements to public highways, roads, bridges or trails located on, or adjacent to, federal lands. These projects will be implemented for purposes including bridge access improvement, intersection improvement, surface improvements, and advancing the implementation of safe, inviting, non-motorized transportation routes linking federal lands to surrounding communities.
The Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration will provide funding for the respective phases of work and amounts as listed below.
Project: 2024 SC Winter Nor'easter FWS (SC ERFO FW CRM 2024-1)
Location: Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge in Charleston County
Phase of Work: Preliminary Engineering
Year: 2027
Match: 100 percent Federal
Cost: $3,065,000
Project: Sumter National Forest Gateway Bridge (SC FLAP 20)
Location: Abbeville County
Phase of Work: Preliminary Engineering
Year: 2025
Match: 100 percent Federal
Cost: $1,500,000
Project: Buck Hall Landing Intersection (SC FLAP 23) at Francis Marion National Forest
Location: Charleston County
Phase of Work: Construction
Year: 2025
Match: 20 percent local
Cost: $1,407,500
Project: Overmountain Victory Trail Study (SC FLAP 24)
Location: Cherokee County
Phase of Work: Preliminary Engineering
Year: 2025
Match: 100 percent Federal
Cost: $2,700,000
Project: Rehab Route #T000 Gator Pond Road Trail Former Route #412 (SC FLTP FW SNT (1))
Location: Clarendon County
Phase of Work: Construction
Year: 2025
