SCDOT to hold public information meeting about road diet on East Main Street in the City of Spartanburg

Columbia, S.C. (April 13, 2026) - SCDOT will hold a open house public meeting to share information about a proposed road diet in the City of Spartanburg, along East Main Street between Converse Street and East St. John Street.

SCDOT will hold the drop-in style meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Mary Black Foundation, 349 E. Main St, Spartanburg SC 29302. SCDOT representatives will be available to share project plans and speak with attendees.

SCDOT proposes to modify lane configurations along a section of East Main Street between Converse Street and East St. John Street. Currently East Main Street has two vehicle lanes in each direction, with a total of four lanes. After lanes have been modified, East Main Street will have one vehicle lane in each direction, a two-way left turn lane in the middle, and bike lanes along both sides.

Lane painting will take place in coordination with scheduled roadway resurfacing work. The new lane configuration will be put in place within the existing pavement footprint. To learn more, visit projectportal.scdot.org/e-main-street-road-diet-city-spartanburg.
