SCDOT to hold Public Hearing about proposed I-26 corridor improvements in Dorchester and Orangeburg counties

Columbia, S.C. (December 17, 2025) – SCDOT will hold a public hearing and open-house meeting on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the Orangeburg County Conference Center about the proposed corridor improvement project on Interstate 26 from mile marker 145 to 172 in Orangeburg and Dorchester counties.

The proposed I-26 improvements project would increase vehicle capacity to help relieve current and future traffic congestion. The project would improve safety and navigability along the corridor by bringing the interstate highway and interchanges within the project area up to current design standards.

SCDOT seeks input from the public and will accept comments from December 24, 2025 to January 23, 2026.

Physical copies of the project environmental assessment will be available for review at the public hearing and at the following locations:

  • Orangeburg County Library, 1645 Russell St., Orangeburg, SC 29115
  • SCDOT District 1 Office, 1400 Shop Road, Columbia, SC 29201
  • SCDOT District 7 Office, 1724 Charleston Hwy, Orangeburg, SC 29115 and
  • SCDOT Dorchester Maintenance, 5225 E. Jim Bilton Blvd., St. George, SC 29477.
