Columbia, S.C. (October 2, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close Fairmont Road where it intersects Leesburg Road in Richland County beginning Friday, October 9.
The closure will begin October 9 at 6 p.m. and end Monday, October 12, by 6 a.m., pending any weather delays.
A detour for the closure is below. Drivers travelling on Fairmont Road toward Leesburg Road can get to Leesburg Road by turning left onto Elmtree Road, follow the detour signs, then take a right onto Greenlawn Drive and then onto Leesburg Road.
Drivers traveling east on Leesburg Road (away from I-77) can turn right onto Beckley Drive and follow it to Fairmont Road.
Drivers traveling west on Leesburg Road (toward I-77) can turn left onto Hilo Street, then another left onto Elmtree Road back to Fairmont Road.
The closure will allow SCDOT crews to realign Fairmont Road with Leesburg Road to improve safety at the intersection.
SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to the new traffic pattern when driving through the area.
