SCDOT requests comments on proposed bridge replacement project in Berkeley County

Columbia, S.C. (February 18, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation requests comments on the proposed replacement of the bridge on S-9 (Cypress Gardens Road) over Canterhill Swamp in Berkeley County.

The purpose of the project is to correct structural deficiencies of the existing bridge. SCDOT would replace the existing bridge structure and construct the roadway to meet current design and safety standards.

SCDOT will accept comments through March 16, 2026. The public may provide comments through the project website, by mail to Michael Fulmer, SCDOT, 955 Park Street, Columbia, SC 29201, by calling (803) 737-1834, or by email to FulmerMJ@scdot.gov.

SCDOT encourages members of the public to review the project website and provide questions or comments about potential impacts of the project. All comments received during a project comment period will be reviewed and included in the project record. Individuals who provide comments will receive a response upon request.
