SCDOT to temporarily detour I-77 northbound in Richland County

Columbia, S.C. (September 1, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation will implement a temporary nighttime detour of I-77 northbound in Richland County as part of the construction for the new interchange at Exit 26 on September 8.

There will be two detour periods between mile markers 24 and 27:

  • September 8 at 10 p.m. through September 9 at 6 a.m.
  • In case of inclement weather: September 9 at 10 p.m. through September 10 at 6 a.m.   

As part of this closure a detour route has been set up. A map of the detour can be found below. Traffic on I-77 southbound will be unaffected by the detours listed.     

SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to signs and crews when driving through the area.
