SCDOT to implement new traffic pattern for US-21 interchange at I-77 in Richland County

Columbia, S.C. (March 12, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation will implement a new traffic pattern for traffic turning onto I-77 Southbound from US-21 Southbound in Richland County beginning March 19.

A new single left turn lane with traffic signals will open on US-21 Southbound onto a new on-ramp to I-77 Southbound. A new yield sign will be installed on the existing on-ramp from US-21 Northbound to I-77 Southbound. The existing loop ramp from US-21 Southbound will be closed and demolished.

Additionally, two new left turn lanes and new traffic signals will open at the I-77 Northbound off-ramp to US-21 (Exit 24). The existing free-flow right turn lane will not be impacted by this change.

SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to the new traffic patterns when driving through the area.
