Columbia, S.C. (August 28, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation will convert the intersection of North Mechanic Street and Queen Street in Pendleton from a signalized intersection to an all-way stop beginning Monday, September 1.
Signals at the intersection will be changed to an all-red flash pattern on September 1. At the same time, new stop signs will be installed to reflect the change, requiring drivers approaching the intersection from all directions to come to a complete stop before proceeding.
SCDOT will monitor the operational effectiveness of the intersection for 90 days.
Once the monitoring period is over, a decision will be made as to whether the all-way stop is functioning as designed.
The signals will be removed from the intersection by SCDOT if the all-stop is retained.
To comment on the change, drivers can call 864-889-8002.
SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to the new traffic pattern when driving through the area.
