Columbia, S.C. (July 10, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation will shift traffic at the intersection of Myrtle Beach Highway (US 378) and Brick Church Road (SC-527) in Sumter County on Thursday, July 16.
The traffic pattern will permanently shift from a traditional stop-controlled intersection on Brick Church Road to a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) intersection on Myrtle Beach Highway. It works by eliminating left turns and through movements from side streets.
For this project, vehicles traveling on the side road, Brick Church Road must turn right onto Myrtle Beach Highway and then use a designated, one-way U-turn area to travel in their desired direction.
The design improves traffic flow and enhances safety by reducing the potential for severe and fatal collisions.
SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to crews when driving through the area.
