Columbia, S.C. (August 31, 2026) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation closed the left lane of I-26 westbound near mile marker 44 to repair the Union Highway bridge that crosses over the interstate in Spartanburg County on Monday, August 31.
The bridge being repaired will be closed to through traffic and a detour for Union Highway (SC 49), the route being closed, will be in place. A map of the detour is below.
Drivers traveling southbound on Union Highway (SC-49) will be directed to take I-26 westbound towards Spartanburg. They will take Exit 41 to SC-92 and turn left, cross over the bridge over I-26 and then turn left to take I-26 eastbound towards Clinton. They will take Exit 44, which will bring them back to Union Highway (SC-49).
Drivers traveling northbound on Union Highway (SC-49) will be directed to take I-26 Eastbound towards Clinton. They will take Exit 52 to Highway 56, turn left, cross the bridge over I-26, turn left to take I-26 westbound towards Spartanburg. They will take Exit 44, which will bring them back to Union Highway (SC-49).
SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to signs and crews when driving near the work zone.
