The South Carolina Department of Transportation was presented with an unmodified, or "clean audit" for the fiscal year 2024-2025. This report marks the eighth consecutive year the agency's financial operations have received an unmodified review with zero findings. The audit was conducted by the independent firm of Mauldin & Jenkins, a southeastern regional firm.
Chair of the Commission Audit Committee, Curtis Spencer said, "I am pleased to be able to report that yet again SCDOT received a clean audit. The agency has one of the strongest audit functions in state government, and I appreciate the hard work of our financial management teams to ensure we are exceeding the standard for good stewardship."
Chair of the Commission Max Metcalf said, "It comes as no surprise that yet again, this organization has demonstrated their continued commitment to being responsible stewards of the public trust. This report shows that we have continued to deliver on our promise to serve the people of South Carolina by completing programs and projects."
Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell said, "At SCDOT, our efforts are focused on improving efficiency, reducing unnecessary regulations, and using our resources strategically to improve transportation in South Carolina. I am proud to hear that the team at SCDOT continues to deliver on that mission. While this reflects our consistent, measured progress, we know there is always more work to be done to deliver more and deliver better and we are not slowing down."
The annual audit was presented at a meeting of the SCDOT Commission Audit Committee held in Columbia on March 26.
