SCDOT to host ribbon cutting ceremony for the Old Vaucluse Road bridge replacement in Aiken County

Columbia, S.C. (May 14, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion and opening of the Old Vaucluse Road replacement bridge (S-105) over Interstate-20 in Aiken County.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday May 21, at 2 p.m. on the newly constructed bridge deck.

State representatives and local partners will join SCDOT Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell in commemorating the bridge reopening.

The previous bridge was closed in June 2025 after a non-fatal collision between a tanker truck and car on I-20, causing the bridge to collapse onto the interstate.

An emergency executive order was signed by Governor McMaster to expedite replacing the bridge, a critical route for first responders and other motorists.

A recording of the ceremony will be available after the event on the SCDOT's YouTube channel.

MEDIA NOTICE: A brief media availability will follow the ceremony, led by Secretary Powell.

MEDIA CONTACT: Jennifer Timmons (803) 391-8338.

PARKING: The bridge site does not have a physical address.

Event signage and SCDOT staff will be on hand to assist guests.

For navigation purposes, use '80 Old Vaucluse Rd, Aiken, SC' (near Sage Valley Golf Club). ** Do not enter the golf club entrance **
