Columbia, S.C. (July 31, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announces that its free roadside assistance service, the State Highway Emergency Program (SHEP), will expand to Jasper County beginning Monday, August 3.
The new Jasper SHEP Region will provide coverage along Interstate 95 from mile marker 0 to mile marker 18. The expansion will enhance safety and improve incident response for drivers traveling through one of South Carolina's busiest freight and travel corridors.
The expansion builds on the momentum of SHEP's 30th anniversary celebration earlier this year. Since its launch in April 1996, the program has provided free roadside assistance to drivers experiencing vehicle emergencies on South Carolina's highways.
Beyond providing roadside assistance, including flat tire changes, battery jump-starts, fuel delivery, and minor mechanical assistance, SHEP responders help manage traffic incidents, reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety for all travelers.
Drivers who need SHEP assistance can dial *HP (*47) from their mobile phone.
