Columbia, S.C. (June 30, 2026) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation has closed the 5th Avenue South bridge over Myrtle Swash in Horry County for emergency repairs.
The closure was implemented following an inspection conducted as part of SCDOT's bridge inspection and maintenance program.
Crews are expediting a repair plan, and the SCDOT will share a project timeline as additional information becomes available.
Detour signs have been placed throughout the area to assist drivers. The designated detour route is highlighted in green on the map below.
SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to signs and crews when driving through the area.
