Columbia, S.C. (July 23, 2025) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation is expediting the emergency replacement of the bridge on Crowe Creek Road in Pickens County that was damaged and closed on July 21.
This bridge was load restricted, meaning heavy vehicles and trucks were prohibited from crossing. SCDOT has been working closely with our law enforcement partners and they have determined that the damage was caused by a truck weighing more than the restricted weight limit. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement as they continue their investigation.
This bridge was scheduled for a replacement this year. Design for the bridge is being finalized and construction is expected to begin soon, lasting until early 2026. Specific details on the project's timeline will be shared as they become available.
SCDOT would like to thank the public for their patience as we work to replace this bridge. A map of the detour can be found below.
