The South Carolina Department of Transportation will close the I-26 Eastbound Exit 187 ramp and the SC-27 on-ramp to I-26 Westbound in Berkeley County as part of the I-26 Widening and SC-27 Interchange Project.
The closure will begin at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, and is expected to remain in place until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025.
SC 27 will remain open to traffic. A map of the closure and detour information can be found below. Detour signage will be in place to guide drivers.
I-26 Eastbound Exit 187 ramp detour:
Traffic will be detoured to Exit 189 (Volvo Interchange). Drivers should follow posted signs along Autonomous Drive to return to SC-27.
SC-27 on-ramp to I-26 Westbound detour:
Traffic will be detoured to the Volvo on-ramp via Autonomous Drive.
Once work is completed, the initial closure will end with traffic being shifted onto the new SC-27 bridge, immediately followed by a second closure period to complete the connection to the Charleston side ramps. Additional information on the second phase of construction will be provided at that time.
SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention when driving near the work zone. Drivers are encouraged to plan their route with the 511SC App or at 511sc.org.
