Columbia, S.C. (May 22, 2025) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission approved the Agency’s 2026 Pavement Improvement Plan at their meeting today. This adds another $576 million to the previously invested $4.8 billion in pavement improvements across the state of South Carolina.
This is the ninth year of an accelerated pavement improvement program. This action by the Commission will allow another 732 miles of roadway to be added to the more than 7,700 miles of completed and ongoing road work on the Non-Interstate systems statewide.
Commission Chair TJ Johnson said, "SCDOT is thankful for the support of the General Assembly and Governor Henry McMaster to invest in bettering our state's roads and bridges network. We are committed to putting these dollars to work in order to improve the state's infrastructure."
Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell said, "With the Commission's approval of the 2026 Pavement Improvement Plan, our team at SCDOT can continue to improve the condition of our roadways in order to keep people and goods moving through the state. We are excited to continue that momentum and continue our service to the people of South Carolina."
The Agency’s Strategic 10-Year Plan was implemented after a significant increase in funding provided by the General Assembly in the 2017 Roads Bill. The increased and sustainable revenue stream gave the agency the opportunity to make steady strides toward improving the highway system in South Carolina. The program focuses on four key areas including highway safety, bridges, road resurfacing and interstate capacity.
