SCDOT closes Hawthorne Avenue bridge over Jimmies Creek in Spartanburg County for repairs

Columbia, S.C. (November 6, 2025) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation has closed the Hawthorne Avenue bridge over Jimmies Creek in Spartanburg County for repairs following a routine inspection. The bridge will remain closed until repairs can be made.

As part of this closure a detour route has been set up. A map of the detour and directions can be found below. Please note that Hawthorne Avenue will be open to local traffic only, except at the bridge site.

SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to signs and crews when driving through the area. SCDOT encourages the public to stay tuned to our website and social media for further information on the timeline for repairs.

Detour Route for Northbound Traffic on Hawthorne (S-42-769): Motorists traveling northbound on Hawthorne Road (S-42-769) will turn left onto Edgewood Circle (S-42-738), then turn right on E. Hayne Street (S-42-177), and end at Hawthorne Road (S-42-769).

Detour Route for Southbound Traffic on Hawthorne (S-42-769): Motorists traveling southbound on Hawthorne Road (S-42-769) will turn right onto E. Hayne Street (S-42-177), then turn left on Edgewood Circle (S-42-738), and end at Hawthorne Road (S-42-769).
