Columbia, S.C. (September 27, 2024)— The South Carolina Department of Transportation is responding to impacts associated with Tropical Storm Helene across the state. We are working closely with the utility companies and local agencies to safely reopen all of our roads as quickly as possible.
The primary hazards for drivers are downed trees and power lines, debris in the roadway and traffic signal outages. If you must travel, SCDOT asks that you use caution and report any downed trees or debris to us directly at 855-467-2368. SCDOT's Call Center is open and operating.
We anticipated the debris impacts this storm could bring and SCDOT pre-staged equipment and people in western areas of the state. Those crews are now on the roads, actively working. Additional assistance crews have been mobilized to support storm response in heavily impacted areas.
If you come across first responders, like SCDOT employees, slow down and give them room to work.
If you must travel, you can plan your route ahead by using the 511 SC app or website.
