SCDOT to conduct temporary overnight detours of I-20 at Broad River Road in Richland County for roadwork

Columbia, S.C. (December 5, 2024)— The South Carolina Department of Transportation will conduct temporary overnight closures of I-20 at Broad River Road (US-176).

Traffic will be detoured using the Broad River Road intersection at Exit 65. Motorists will be directed to exit I-20 using the off-ramp to Broad River Road and continue through the intersection to enter the on-ramp back onto I-20.

The detour schedule for the I-20 westbound overnight closures is as follows:

  • Monday, December 9 to Tuesday, December 10 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, December 10 to Wednesday, December 11 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The detour schedule for the I-20 eastbound overnight closures is as follows:

  • Wednesday, December 18 to Thursday, December 19 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, December 19 to Friday, December 20 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

These temporary overnight closures of I-20 are necessary for the contractor to set the concrete beams for the new bridge that will carry Broad River Road traffic over I-20 as part of Phase 2 of the Carolina Crossroads Project.

Message boards and construction signs will be placed along I-20 to inform motorists of the detour and temporary traffic pattern. Law enforcement will be present at the intersection of Broad River Road and the I-20 on-and-off-ramps to effectively direct traffic.
