Overnight Closures Scheduled on I-26 Westbound for Bridge Construction

Columbia, S.C. (May 31, 2024) - Starting overnight tonight, the South Carolina Department of Transportation will conduct temporary closures of a section of Interstate I-26 Westbound, from just west of the US 1 Interchange to the interchange of I-126 and Bush River Road.

Th e on-ramp to I-26 westbound from US 378 will also be closed by local law enforcement during each closure. A total of four separate closures will be needed overnight tonight and into the early morning hours Saturday, June 1. The first temporary closures start tonight at approximately 10 p.m.

Th e closures will allow SCDOT to safely transport new bridge beams to the work zone at the new bridge on I-26 westbound over the Saluda River. This is a part of SCDOT’s ongoing construction of the Carolina Crossroads Project in Richland and Lexington counties.

Drivers are advised to use caution and plan accordingly in case of delays. Note that all dates are subject to change based on weather conditions. Lo cal law enforcement and transportation authorities will be onsite during the closures for traffic management. Motorists may experience temporary slowdowns and stops in traffic while the closure takes place, and are advised to use caution, plan accordingly, and follow posted instructions.
