Both travel lanes at mile markers 65 and 85 in Newberry and Laurens counties open to vehicle traffic
Columbia, S.C.
(April 26, 2024) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation has lifted lane closures on Interstate 26 eastbound following construction work on two bridges that was completed 12 days ahead of schedule.
On April 15, SCDOT had reduced traffic to one lane in the eastbound direction at mile marker 65 (Indian Creek) in Laurens County and mile marker 83 (Palmetto Trail) in Newberry County. The lane closures allowed for work on two bridges that SCDOT had scheduled for rehabilitation.
SCDOT anticipates a similar closure for rehabilitation of the adjacent westbound bridges in 2025. These bridges are among approximately 500 aging bridges across the state that SCDOT is working to replace or rehabilitate in keeping with the Department's Strategic 10-year plan.
