Columbia, S.C.
(April 24, 2024) – Starting on Thursday, April 25, the northbound lane of South Main Street will be closed from College Street to Pendleton Street on weekdays through May 17. The closure will allow for underground work ahead of construction on the east side of South Main Street.
Earlier this week, vehicle traffic on South Main Street was shifted west toward the Assembly Street side to allow for the second phase of construction.
Businesses on both sides of South Main Street will continue to be accessible. SCDOT asks the traveling public to use caution in and around this active work zone.
The purpose of the project is to improve pedestrian safety and enhance the appearance of South Main Street between Blossom and Pendleton streets. The project is partnership among the State of South Carolina, the City of Columbia, Richland County, and the University of South Carolina.
