The South Carolina Department of Transportation will conduct temporary closures of a section of Interstate I-126 Eastbound, just east of the I-26/I-126 Interchange. Weather pending, the closures will take place tonight, Saturday night, and Sunday night.
On Friday and Saturday nights, impacts to interstate traffic are expected to start around 10 p.m. On Sunday night, interstate traffic impacts will begin at approximately 6 p.m.
Traffic on I-126 Eastbound will be stopped in increments of approximately 20 minutes as crews work to securely place bridge beams over the interstate. Waiting vehicles will be allowed to pass in the eastbound direction between construction work increments. Longer closure increments may take place overnight.
The closures will allow SCDOT to safely transport and set new bridge beams in their permanent location over the interstate. This is a part of SCDOT’s ongoing construction of the Carolina Crossroads Project in Richland and Lexington counties.
Local law enforcement and transportation authorities will be onsite during the closure for traffic management. Motorists may experience temporary slowdowns and stops in traffic while the closure takes place, and are advised to use caution, plan accordingly, and follow posted instructions.
The closure is subject to change in case of poor weather or other unexpected issues.
