Columbia, S.C. (April 2, 2024) – On the evening of Tuesday, April 2, the South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of Interstate I-126 Eastbound, just east of the I-26/I-126 Interchange.
The closure will allow SCDOT to safely transport and set new bridge beams in their permanent location over the interstate. This is a part of SCDOT’s ongoing construction of the Carolina Crossroads Project in Richland and Lexington counties.
Local law enforcement and transportation authorities will be onsite during the closure for traffic management. Motorists may experience temporary slowdowns and stops in traffic while the closure takes place, and are advised to use caution, plan accordingly, and follow posted instructions.
The first closure is expected to start at around 10 p.m. and will last approximately 20 minutes. Additional closures will likely be required overnight, but vehicles in the queue will be allowed through incrementally as the beams are safely secured over the travel lanes.
The closure is subject to change in case of poor weather or other unexpected issues.
