Columbia, S.C. (February 29, 2024) – SCDOT will implement three separate closures of Interstate 126 Westbound, between Elmwood Avenue and Colonial Life Boulevard, for Carolina Crossroads project construction work. Each closure will last for approximately 30 minutes.
The first closure is scheduled for the early morning hours tomorrow, March 1. This closure was previously scheduled for early today but was delayed because of weather.
The three closures of I-126 Westbound will allow SCDOT to safely transport and set new bridge beams in their permanent locations. Each closure will begin soon after midnight and last for approximately 30 minutes. Scheduled closure dates are as follows:
Early Friday morning, March 1, 2024
Early Thursday morning, March 7, 2024
Early Sunday morning, March 10, 2024
Exact timing of the I-126 Westbound closures is subject to change based on construction progress, with backup dates scheduled in case of poor weather or other unexpected issues. Routine nighttime lane closures for project construction will also continue to take place throughout this timeframe. Drivers may experience temporary slowdowns and stops in traffic while these closures take place, and are advised to use caution and plan accordingly.
During the I-126 Westbound closures, local law enforcement and transportation authorities will be onsite for traffic management and to help provide for the safety of construction crews and the traveling public.
