Charleston, S.C. (May 11, 2023) – Starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, SCDOT will begin a series of overnight closures of the Southbound lanes of the Ashley River Memorial Bridge for bridge maintenance repairs.
Weather permitting, the bridge maintenance repair work is expected to last approximately two weeks, with nightly close and detour operations Sunday through Friday between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. The Northbound lanes of the Ashley River Memorial Bridge will remain open to traffic.
Detour Information
Motorists leaving downtown Charleston on Spring Street (U.S. 17) will detour onto Lockwood Drive and across the Ashley River on the James Island Expressway (SC-30). After crossing over the Ashley River, the James Island Expressway (SC-30) becomes the Fielding Connector (SC-61). A left turn from SC-61 onto Wesley Drive (SC-171) will return motorists to U.S. 17.
