In anticipation of the upcoming I-77 Southbound closure that begins Friday night, and to better serve traffic in the area, SCDOT is changing the traffic pattern for Garner’s Ferry Road and Leesburg Road entering I-77 Northbound. The cut-through from Garner’s Ferry to Leesburg Road will be closed and westbound traffic on Garner’s Ferry will access I-77 Northbound by turning right onto Leesburg Road and then making a left onto the I-77 Northbound on-ramp (see the traffic map in the post). The changes are designed to make travel in the area more efficient and increase safety for drivers navigating on and off the interstate in the area.
These changes have been studied, evaluated and are being implemented by a multidisciplinary team that includes SCDOT engineers, design consultants, SCDOT maintenance and signal crews, contractors and City of Columbia traffic signal technicians. The work was completed this week and the new traffic pattern is in effect. If you’re driving in the area, slow down and pay attention to the new signals and road signs.
