The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will hold a ceremony Thursday, April 28, 2022, to honor the men and women who have given their lives in service to SCDOT and the state of South Carolina.
The SCDOT Workers Memorial ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in front of SCDOT Headquarters, 955 Park St., Columbia. This is the location of the SCDOT Workers Memorial wall, which was unveiled in 2018.
Scheduled speakers include Secretary of Transportation Christy A. Hall and SCDOT Commission Chairman David E. "Gene" Branham Sr.
The Memorial honors SCDOT employees, dating back to the 1920s, killed while working on the highways as well as those who died on the job from natural causes.
This year's ceremony will add the name of SCDOT Greenwood Maintenance employee Charles "Chuck" Kennedy, who died in the line of duty on June 10, 2021 while on the way to a work site.
The ceremony will be streamed via the SCDOT Internet page, www.scdot.org, and SCDOT Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/SCDOT.
MEDIA PARKING: inside the barricade at Park and College streets.
With continued progress from SCDOT's Strategic 10-Year Plan to rebuild South Carolina's roads and bridges, more work zones are in place all across South Carolina. SCDOT reminds motorists to remain alert and use caution. "Let 'em Work. Let 'em Live."
