The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to complete the removal of the final five miles of the traffic chute on the I-85 Widening Project in Cherokee County, Monday night, December 13, 2021. This is more than two weeks ahead of schedule than previously projected for the segment of interstate between mile markers 86 and 91.
"We appreciate the hard work of the contractor to concentrate his activities on this segment of interstate in order to complete the widening work necessary to make this switch. We still have much work to do on this project and will continue our efforts regarding safety in the work zone. We also ask for the help of the motoring public. Slow down, pay attention, and obey the signs in the work zone," says Secretary of Transportation Christy Hall.
