The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will be improving the riding surface of the eastbound bridge deck of the Conway Bypass (SC Highway 22) over US 501 in Horry County.
Starting Monday, Oct 25, crews will use hydrodemolition – an efficient, cost-effective and precise method to remove deteriorating concrete using high-pressure water – followed by bonding with a new, improved surface. Motorists will have a smoother ride once the two-week project is completed.
The work will require closure of the SC 22 East Ramp over US 501 from Oct. 25 to Nov. 8. Motorists traveling south on US 501 will have to use a detour to access SC 22.
Note: Other ramps will remain open as normal. This means northbound traffic on US 501 will still be able to take SC 22 east; and westbound traffic from SC 22 will still be able to access US 501 as normal.
Detour information:
A detour will be posted using SC 319 from US 501 in downtown Aynor to the Conway Bypass (SC 22). Motorists are advised to plan ahead, use the posted detour or an alternate route.
