As part of the Interstate 85 widening project in Spartanburg and Cherokee counties, the interchange at exit 104 near the North Carolina state line will be rebuilt and modernized with a new bridge and new ramps to provide safer, improved traffic flow.
The new interchange will also increase safety by eliminating the current two-way traffic on ramps leading to frontage roads, making the new ramps one-directional. This will eliminate an antiquated traffic pattern and bring it up to current standards.
To complete work as soon as possible, a portion of White Farm Road (S-11-669) will have to close from Oct. 11, 2021, until Dec. 9 2021, depending on weather and utility issues. The detour route will use Foster Lake Road (S-11-108) and Holly Grove Road (S-11-52). The net detour is approximately 1.24 miles.
Traffic on the Tribal Road bridge over I-85 will not be impacted. The bridge will remain open while a wider and higher new, more modern bridge is being built next to it to accommodate 6 lanes of traffic below, with room for future widening, on the interstate. The new bridge is expected to open in early 2022.
SCDOT continues to urge motorists to slow down, pay attention and drive carefully as the contractor works on the reconstruction and widening of 21 miles of I-85 between mile markers 77 and 98 in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties.
The map below shows the detour beginning Oct. 11.
