New I-77 Traffic Camera Installed at Catawba River Bridge

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has installed a new traffic camera at the site of the southbound Interstate 77 Catawba River bridge repair project.

The new camera is part of SCDOT's 511 Traveler Information System, easily accessible at www.511sc.org or via the free SCDOT 511 app. The new camera can be found on the 511 site by using the search function within the "Cameras" window and searching for "Catawba River Bridge." Or, users can choose I-77 from the drop down and scroll until the Catawba River Bridge appears.

Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, Thursday May 6, the I-77 southbound bridge over the Catawba River in York County is scheduled to be closed for extensive, around-the-clock repairs until 5 a.m. May 24, 2021, barring delays due to unforeseen circumstances. Traffic will be diverted to the northbound side of I-77 during the repair project.

Work is planned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to expedite the project as much as possible.

Built in the 1970s, the I-77 southbound bridge deck over the Catawba River has shown clear signs of deterioration and has required many repairs during the past decade, often taking several days and impacting traffic.
