US 76 / 378 (Garners Ferry Road) Rural Road Safety Project

Public Comment Period:

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCOOT) is holding a Public Information Meeting for the proposed US 76 / 378 (Garners Ferry Road) Rural Road Safety Project. Due to health and safety concerns, the meeting will be by appointment only.

In-person meetings with the project team will be offered on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Beulah Baptist Church - Youth Building, 9487 Garners Ferry Rd, Hopkins, SC 29061. Appointments are strongly encouraged due to health protocols. Walk-ins will be accommodated based on availability. The Public Information Meeting will have displays and handouts for viewing, and citizens will have the opportunity to provide written comments. Project information, including meeting displays and handouts, will also be available on the project website at https://scdotgis.online/US76RRSP beginning April 15, 2021. This site will also provide citizens an opportunity to provide comments. The Public Comment period will begin on April 15, 2021, and end on May 15, 2021.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Rural Roads Program is to improve safety on South Carolina's rural roadways through engineering solutions identified to reduce the frequency of fatal and serious injury crashes occurring on these roadways. This meeting will provide an opportunity to review, discuss, and provide comments on the proposed US 76 / 378 Garners Ferry Road Rural Road Safety Project with project representatives.

The project extends 13.3 miles along US 76 / 378 Garners Ferry Road Rural Road Safety Project is from S-40-86 (Harmon Road)  to the Sumter  County line. The project will include various engineering solutions such as widening and paving of shoulders, wider and brighter pavement markings, rumble strips, improved clear zone, select median cross-over removal, and additional guardrail throughout the median and along the outside shoulders to reduce the frequency of fatal and serious injury run-off-the-road crashes.
