Lane Closures Beginning April 1 for repair of two US 17 bridges

The South Carolina Department of Transportation announces lane closures necessary for repairs of two bridges along US Highway 17. The first bridge spans the North Santee River approximately 0.9 miles south of Powell Rd. in Georgetown County and the second bridge spans the South Santee River on the Charleston/Georgetown county line, approximately 1.1 miles north of S. Santee Rd.

To minimize the project duration, cost, and impact to commuters and property owners in the area, the road at each bridge will be closed during repair.

Both northbound and southbound traffic on US 17 will be reduced to one lane throughout the project with a reduced speed of 45 mph.  All US 17 southbound traffic will be detoured onto the northbound bridges as the northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.

Both southbound bridges will be closed April 1, 2021, and are estimated to reopen to traffic by approximately June 30, 2021, barring delays due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

SCDOT advises motorists to plan ahead, expect congestion and use caution.
