SCDOT Invites Public Comments on Proposed Safety Improvements Along US 176 Near Columbia

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) requests comments from the public during an online public meeting on a proposed project to improve road and pedestrian safety along US 176 from St. Andrews Road to Atlantic Drive in Columbia. SCDOT will receive public comment from September 15, 2020, through October 15, 2020.

As a part of this safety project, SCDOT proposes to install concrete medians, consolidate driveways in areas with a high-frequency of angle collisions, install crosswalks and pedestrian signals at signalized intersections to improve pedestrian safety, and upgrade signal equipment, signage, and pavement markings. The project will improve intersection operations and safety along the US 176 corridor. The total estimated cost for this project is $1.5 million.

The public is encouraged to participate online by visiting the project website at https://scdotgis.online/US176SP or by accessing SCDOT's website ( www.scdot.org – Programs & Projects – Public Comment – Meetings). The project website includes project informational materials and displays for viewing and the opportunity for the public to submit comments. SCDOT personnel will respond to the comments received during the comment period.

If you have limited internet access or have any questions during the public comment period, contact SCDOT Project Manager Brett McCutchan at 803-737-1564 in Columbia, or at McCutchaBJ@scdot.org to request additional information.
