The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will temporarily close the ramp on I-26 East at Exit 107B, which provides access to I-20 East towards Florence. This closure, along with a signed detour, is expected to be installed on Wednesday evening, September 9, 2020, and again Thursday evening, September 10, 2020.
The closure is necessary to assist with pavement preservation currently being completed on I-20. With the closure in place, SCDOT and its contractor will more efficiently be able to complete resurfacing of the I-20 Eastbound lanes at the I-26 interchanges, while also eliminating potential safety concerns to the traveling public.
This closure and the temporary detour will be installed each evening from 11:00 PM until approximately 5:00 AM the following morning. During the closure, motorists traveling on I-26 East will utilize a signed detour to access I-20 East. Detoured motorists will continue on I-26 East to Exit 108A (Bush River Road), and will turn left at the stoplight onto Bush River Road. By staying in the far right lane on Bush River Road, motorists will then be able to merge onto the ramp to I-26 West. From there, motorists will be able to use the ramp on I-26 West at Exit 107B to access I-20 East towards Florence.
While this project falls in the I-20 and I-26 corridor, it is not part of the Carolina Crossroads project and does not indicate the start of the Carolina Crossroads project. This necessary pavement preservation project will maintain a safe interstate pavement system from the time of completion to the point when Phases 2 and 3 of Carolina Crossroads are constructed. Procurement for construction of Phase 1 of Carolina Crossroads began on April 1, and procurement of construction for Phase 2 began on July 15. Drivers traveling through the work zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working adjacent to traffic at all times. "Let 'em Work. Let 'em Live."
