On Aug. 12, 2020, two bridges in Greenville County were closed and detours were installed by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). The two bridges are located on Groce Meadow Road (Secondary 92) over Beaverdam Creek and on Goodwin Bridge Road (Secondary 130) over the North Saluda River.
These closures were the result of an enhanced bridge inspection that is currently being performed on all bridges throughout the state. The enhanced inspection identified some issues that require repair. In an abundance of caution, the decision was made to temporarily close the structures until the repairs can be made to eliminate any safety concerns or possible damage to the structure.
SCDOT understands the impact that a road closure has on a community and does not make this decision lightly. SCDOT will work diligently to design and complete the repairs so these bridges can be reopened as soon as possible. The repairs are estimated to take approximately 8 to 10 months, depending on weather and unforeseen circumstances.
SCDOT reminds drivers to please use caution in work zones. "Let 'em Work. Let 'em Live."
