The South Carolina Department of Transportation welcomes you to the official Website for the I-20 Widening Project.
SCDOT proposes to widen Interstate 20 between I-77 to just east of Spears Creek Church Road (Exit 82) in northeast Richland County. This is one of the busiest sections of I-20 in the county.
Public Hearing Held
SCDOT hosted a public hearing on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. For those unable to attend the hearing, they are encouraged to comment using the public comment form during the public comment period, which ends on September 8. The forms may be mailed to the address on the form or faxed to 803.737.1510.

Project Information
The project includes widening to six lanes and mainline corridor rehabilitation of 6.7 miles of I-20.
The majority of the widening will occur in the median utilizing concrete pavement.
The completed project will include paved shoulders and three 12-foot travel lanes in both directions.
Two travel lanes in each direction will be open to traffic during construction, except for limited nighttime lane closures.
Project Schedule
The project is currently scheduled to start this Winter (2010/2011) and is estimated to take approximately 30-36 months to complete. Measures will be taken to encourage the contractor to expedite construction completion.
