SCDOT Requests Public Comment on the 2021 – 2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) to Include the Right of Way Phase of Work to I-77 (Exit 26) – New Interchange and Connecting Roads Project

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) requests comments from the public on the addition of the I-77 (Exit 26) – New Interchange and Connecting Roads Project in Richland County. The SCDOT Commission approved an opportunity for the public to comment on the action to amend the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) to include the right of way phase of work for the proposed interchange and connecting roads project, during its May 18, 2023, meeting.

SCDOT will receive public comment for a 21-day period from May 23, 2023 through June 12, 2023.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to construct a new interchange on I-77 at approximate mile marker 26 in Richland County. The proposed project will include a new connector road on the east side of I-77 to connect the new interchange to US 21 along with necessary improvements. Roadway improvements to connect the new interchange and the existing frontage road (Community Road), and the widening of northbound I-77 from approximate mile marker 25 to mile marker 27 will also be included. Lastly, the project includes improvements to accommodate proposed railroad crossings at I-77.

SCDOT certifies that these projects were selected in consideration of established priorities as required by federal laws or regulations and in accordance with SC Code of Laws Section 57-1-370 (Act 114) and the SCDOT's 10 Year Plan.
