The Office of Planning’s transit planning section works with SCDOT’s Mass Transit Division and other modal sections to ensure that the state’s multimodal transportation objectives are addressed. This section also provides planning program and project development assistance and outreach to South Carolina’s regional planning agencies (councils of government), metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and transit providers in implementing localized public transportation services.
The transit planning section coordinates transit and passenger rail planning activities and initiatives that support statewide, regional and local multimodal transportation goals, including human services transportation coordination. To support short and long-range planning activities, staff collects, analyzes and reports on transit data from across the state. Integrating public transit into the state’s overall transportation infrastructure is an important overarching responsibility of this section.
