I-26 Widening from Mile Marker 85 to Mile Marker 101

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) propose widening Highway I-26 from approximately 1.6 miles west of the SC 202 (Exit 85) interchange to approximately 0.4 miles west of the US 176 (Exit 101) interchange.

Why?

The purpose for this highway widening effort is to:

  • Increase vehicle capacity
  • Improve safety
  • Upgrade to current design standards

What?

Road improvements would include:

  • Add an additional lane in each direction
  • Improve interchanges
  • Improve exit ramps
  • Replace and/or rehabilitate overpass bridges

Provide Input

The project team welcomes your input! Information gathered from various studies, along with your input at community meetings, will be used to guide the selection of the ideal design (also known as preferred alternative). Different configurations and possibly different locations for the proposed interchange and road improvements will be considered. The preferred alternative will be presented at a future public hearing, at which time you will have an opportunity to offer additional input. If you have suggestions, ideas, or concerns about the project, please do not hesitate to provide your input in one of the following ways:

  • October 13, 2016, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Chapin Middle School Cafeteria (through Gate 1), 11661 Broad River Road Chapin, SC 29036
  • Upcoming community meetings and public hearing information will be posted here
