PERFORATED PAVING BLOCKS

SCDOT uses hollow pavers in the construction of permeable pavements that support the weight of light traffic. They are installed using plastic grid systems or concrete grids as the base.  Once the grid is installed, topsoil and sand are added inside the grid.  This helps to prevent grass from settling and collapsing, while still encouraging water filtration.

The great thing about perforated paving blocks is that they allow the growth of grass or turf through the paving gaps. This makes them permeable, allowing rain water to soak into the ground, reducing the pressure on our storm water runoff systems. So the grass/turf is being watered and fed, while at the same time reducing the storm water runoff flow into drainage systems.
