LITTER REMOVAL PROGRAMS
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY PROGRAM
In 1988, SCDOT began the Adopt-A-Highway program, which has been one of the most successful programs in combating litter along our highways. In 2006, more than 2,000 groups with nearly 30,000 volunteers picked up trash and litter from along 5,000 miles of state maintained roads.
Since the program began, there have been more than 30 million pounds of litter removed from South Carolina’s highways.
