Encroachment Permits

The Encroachment Permit establishes a uniform standard for encroachment upon roads in the State Highway System so as to provide for the safe and efficient movement of traffic while allowing reasonable access to abutting property. The Application for Encroachment Permit is a request to SCDOT for permission to perform work on SCDOT maintained rights-of-way. An approved permit grants the Applicant permission to encroach on the roadway within the guidelines established on the permit.

Registration is now required to access the online permit.

Fill out the application, print it, and mail it to the SCDOT county office where the encroachment is being applied for.

Applicants can download a fillable Adobe Reader version of the form. The online application is the preferred method. Any applications submitted using the pdf form are NOT saved in the permitting system, and will not be available for later retrieval.

The help page includes instructions on how to fill out the encroachment form, application checklist, and printing instructions.
