The South Carolina Department of Transportation shares your interest in enhancing your communities, towns, cities and counties.
Since 1992, the SCDOT
Commission has elected
to allocate a portion of available funds to the Transportation
Enhancement Program. The program facilitates and provides
a greater opportunity for local governments to collaborate
with the agency to pursue a broad range of non-traditional
transportation related activities such as bicycle and pedestrian
facilities, streetscaping, scenic and landscaping programs,
and historic preservation. Transportation Enhancement
Funds are funded under the current Federal Transportation Legislation SAFETEA-LU (Formerly Transportation Equity Act for
the 21st Century also known as TEA
21 and previously known as ISTEA) and allocated
by the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The program defines "enhancement" projects as accomplishing one or more of the following:
