In an effort to coordinate with the public and the environmental groups, the Department commissioned a public involvement program that included communicating with local leaders, businesses and residents in the surrounding area. The goal of this program was to engage all members of the public potentially impacted by the project in ways that enable them to participate fully and substantively in the study and design process.
This goal will be accomplished by educating a broad cross-section of members of the public concerning the study process, providing access to needed information in a timely fashion, providing mechanisms and opportunities for two-way communication and working to ensure a balanced discussion in the area media and among public participants.
