The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) received an initial allocation of approximately $6.0 million in federal funds as part of the 1998 Transportation Bill, known as TEA-21 (Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century), for the development of a project between Lone Star and Rimini. Due to its inclusion as a High Priority Project, the funding must be used for this project - it cannot be used for any other purpose such as paving dirt roads, resurfacing existing roads, replacing other bridges, widening other roadways, etc. After receiving additional earmarks in the latest transportation bill, the total funding available for this project is now approximately $26.5 million.
Additional funds will be required to complete the project. However, at this time, there are no identifiable sources of funds available. There are no state funds being spent on this project.
