Oct 12, 2009, 14:57

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, Oct. 15, for the East-West Connector in Anderson. It is a project that has received more than $7 million in highway stimulus funds.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. in a grassy area in the parking lot of Ingles Grocery Store, 2404 East Greenville St., Anderson.

Among the scheduled speakers are South Carolina Secretary of Transportation H.B. “Buck” Limehouse Jr.; SCDOT Commissioner R. Eddie Adams, of the 3rd Congressional District; South Carolina Senator William H. O’Dell, of District 4; and Anderson Mayor Terence Roberts.

The East-West Connector is an Anderson Area Transportation Study (ANATS) project to construct a 2-lane roadway on new location from US Route 76/178 (Clemson Boulevard) to SC 81.

This project received $7.65 million of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding.

By providing a direct link between Clemson Boulevard and Greenville Street, the East-West Connector will relieve traffic on Concord Road, Brown Road, Reed Road and other local roads.
