Sep 4, 2008, 16:39

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public hearing in the Waccamaw Neck area of Georgetown County to present the preferred route alternative for the Southern Evacuation Lifeline (SELL) project.

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement provides details on a new evacuation route in southern Horry County that will also serve the South Strand and Waccamaw Neck areas.  The information presented to the public will be the same as presented in previous meetings held in Socastee, Conway, and Bucksport.  The meeting will begin with an informal format with displays for viewing of the route, followed by a formal comment period.

The hearing originally planned for September 4 has been rescheduled and will be held Thursday, September 11, 2008, 4-7 p.m. at the Waccamaw Higher Education Building of Coastal Carolina University, Room 109, 160 Willbrook Blvd., Litchfield, SC. Information may be viewed and discussed with the project team from 4-6 p.m. followed by a formal comment period from 6-7 p.m.

On Friday, August 8, 2008, the Draft Environmental Impact Statement was signed by the SCDOT, FHWA and the SELL Task Force in a ceremony sponsored by the SELL Task Force.

For more information, the public may contact Mike Barbee, Program Manager, SCDOT at (803) 737-4034.
